State of Massachusetts Animal Response Team
The State of Massachusetts Animal
Response Team (SMART) is a network
of organizations, agencies, and individuals
who are committed to responding to the
needs of the animal population in
disaster situations in the State
of Massachusetts.
Within SMART are seven working teams: Shelter Operations, Search &
Rescue, Assessment, Deceased Animal Removal & Disposal, Veterinary
Services, Animal Control Officer and Specialized Animal Services. During a
disaster any one of these teams may be activated by the SMART Team
Leader. The teams utilize the principles of the Incident Command System
(ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
SMART is currently accepting volunteers for the teams. If you are interested
in joining our team, please check out HOW TO VOLUNTEER or contact us.
