So You're Interested In Volunteering....
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
All Volunteers Must Be Registered Before They Can Help.
In order to care for animals during a disaster all volunteers must become
registered with the team.  The State of Massachusetts Animal Response Team
reserves the right to turn away any unregistered volunteers.

All positions on the team are voluntary.
No one is required to work with the team during a disaster.

There are several different ways to become involved.  Even if you have never worked with animals before,
the SMART team needs you!   Perhaps you are a lawyer who can help volunteer your services or perhaps
you are a secretary who has excellent organization skills.  The SMART team needs you.  We are looking for
people with all types of backgrounds, animal and non-animal related.  If you have a love for animals and
want them to be cared for during times of disasters and emergencies then this is the team for you!

1) You will need to fill out:
A)
New Member Registration Form
B) Code of Conduct Form
C) Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement/Release Form
**By agreeing to fill out these forms you are agreeing to a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI)
criminal background check by the State of Massachusetts.  This is to ensure member safety within
the team.  At this time SMART is not conducting background checks.  All members will be notified that
the team will conduct them before doing so.**

2) Complete two emergency courses to learn about how emergency teams
are organized.  The courses are free and can be found at:
http://training.fema.gov/IS/

This involves a couple of hours to download the tests, read the materials and take the test.
A copy of the certificate or the link to the certificate must be submitted via
email to the team you are applying to.  For more information on teams please click
